Ugly Lugs
Ugly Lugs
This bike was another "curb alert" bike that I got for free. It looks to be a nicer touring bike made in the early 70's I believe. I have no idea on the brand, it was originally painted blue but someone spray bombed it a hideous brown at some point( which I kind of like for some reason..). It was originally set up as a 3x6 group set with mid-level Suntour components. I started calling it "Ugly Lugs" because this bike has the largest chunky lugs I have ever seen, this frame is likely bullet-proof. It is rather large too - 60cm or so - which means it will fit me. I may actually keep this one as a commuter, but haven't decided yet. If it catches your eye before I start building it up shoot me an email and we can make it yours. Check out that crank! should polish up really nice!
First step - we need to get all those layers of paint off and see what we are dealing with underneath. You may notice the white lining on some of the lugs, it did not come that way. I was using this frame for practice to try and learn how to line lugs. It is still a skill I am practicing. As I got deeper into the paint it turned out it was painted blue twice and then brown. I also found a serial number buried under there on the downtube.
More to come! - this is my current build bike
